Threshold Poetics: A Selection by Otherworldly Film Festival. Founded in 2023 in Saint-Petersburg (Russia), Otherworldly Film Festival is an independent international festival of experimental cinema and a lab for artists working with the moving image. The festival explores liminality, spectrality, the transitional states of the image, and all possible interpretations of the otherworldly. Each year the curators choose a new overarching theme along with individual vectors of inquiry. This year the festival presented 60 films from 36 countries. The theme of the 2026 season is transition: an in-between state in which the familiar has already receded, while the new has not yet taken shape. We invite viewers to make the transition from point A to point B, where the past has already vanished and the future is unknown. The online program on EQUINOX reassembles works from the season’s various curatorial programs and offers several films that have not previously been shown at Otherworldly.
